Maharashtra has now emerged as the leading startup hub in India, surpassing Bengaluru in both the number of startups and their valuation, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Friday. Speaking at the tech exhibition COMP-EX 2025, he highlighted the state's significant progress in the startup ecosystem over the past year.
Fadnavis stressed the importance of embracing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and noted that his government is actively supporting startups in this rapidly evolving field. He underlined Maharashtra's commitment to fostering innovation and encouraging the growth of AI-driven ventures as part of its broader strategy to stay ahead in the global tech race.
The Chief Minister's remarks come at a time when Maharashtra's startup landscape has gained considerable momentum, reflecting the state's efforts to create a conducive environment for entrepreneurship and technological advancements.
"Maharashtra has surpassed Bengaluru and has become the startup capital of the country both in terms of numbers as well as value in the last one year. The state has the maximum number of startups. Maharashta is a leader in technology and most unicorns come to the state," the CM said.
In order to make Maharashtra the number one state in the innovation space, the government is setting up an 'Innovation City', Fadnavis said. Maharashtra is also the fintech capital of the country, the chief minister said.
