Politics Briefs : Day after first BJP candidates list, PM Modi to address rally in Delhi.
The PM will also launch several development projects, worth Rs 12,200 crore, in the poll-bound national capital.
A day after the BJP announced its first list of candidates for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a rally in the national capital on Sunday.
In North West Delhi district’s Rohini, Modi is set to address the “Parivartan Rally”, with party leaders saying some “big-ticket announcements” are expected to be made.
Already, ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener has announced a Rs 2,100 monthly payment for women and an honorarium of Rs 18,000 per month for priests and granthis. The BJP, however, has said that it intends to continue AAP’s ongoing schemes, including free electricity.
On Saturday, the BJP released a list of 29 candidates for Delhi, including former MPs Parvesh Verma and Ramesh Bidhuri against Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency and Chief Minister Atishi in Kalkaji, respectively, as reported by Jatin Anand.
The AAP has already announced all 70 of its candidates, while the Congress has released 48 names so far. The election schedule, however, is yet to be officially announced by the Election Commission.
The BJP, which has not ruled Delhi since 1993 when its Legislative Assembly was established, is likely hoping for a boost from Modi’s rally.
In addition to the BJP event, the PM is also scheduled to launch multiple development projects, including the inauguration of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat RRTS corridor, worth over Rs 12,200 crore on Sunday.
Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 13-km stretch of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor worth around Rs 4,600 crore. With this inauguration, Delhi will get its first Namo Bharat connectivity. Modi will also inaugurate a 2.8-km stretch of the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV, worth around Rs 1,200 crore. Among other projects, Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Rithala-Kundli section of Delhi Metro, worth around Rs 6,230 crore. He will also lay the foundation stone for the new Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) building at Rohini.
Meanwhile, the Congress is training its guns on the ruling AAP. While party leaders have claimed that the AAP has “deceived” the voters of Delhi and Punjab, All India Congress Committee treasurer Ajay Maken is scheduled to hold a press conference on Sunday in Delhi on AAP’s track record and why he describes Kejriwal as “anti-national”.
